Dear Friends & Church Family!
I hope that this letter finds you well. Things are busy around Lockhart Church, and our schedule is packed over the next few weeks.
First, please pray for the Finance Committee. The committee is in the process of putting together Lockhart Church’s 2022 proposed budget. Currently, the church is under budget by more than $20,000, so the committee’s goal is to cut expenditures by $20,000 from the 2022 budget. We want to be wise stewards of the Lord’s provisions and to live within our means. The proposed budget will be ready November 1, 2021, and copies will be sent out and placed on the table in the back of the church auditorium. We will wait two weeks before having an up or down vote in the church. If you have any questions, please contact me, our chairperson (Chris Cochran), or one of the finance committee members.
Second, the pastor’s Christianity 101 Class is this Sunday morning from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This class is for anyone who would like to meet with the pastor, learn more about our church, and learn what is necessary to get more involved and possibly become a member. Lunch will be served for those who attend the class.
Third, the men’s ministry is restarting the Continental Breakfast on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in the fellowship hall. This is an opportunity for you to arrive early to church, grab your family some breakfast and coffee, and fellowship with other believers before the start of Sunday morning Bible study.
Fourth, Christmas is on its way, so it’s time for Operation Christian Child. Shoe boxes are available in the foyer. Samaritan’s Purse will take the boxes you pack and deliver them to children overseas. Each box will contain items you pack plus a small booklet and tract explaining the gospel. This is our opportunity to share the love of Christ to children all over the world. The cost of shipment is $9 a box, but someone in our church has offered to pay the cost of shipping. Isn’t that great! The deadline for returning the boxes to Lockhart Church for delivery is Sunday, November 14.
Fifth, Kayla has chosen the Christmas Musical for the holiday celebration, and choir practice will start on Sunday afternoon, October 10, at 4:00 PM in the auditorium. We need at least 12 to 15 choir members to have a successful program. This is a seasonal choir, and we will need your commitment only through Christmas day. Please seriously consider coming and being a part our choir. We have hours of fun and it’s only with your help that we can have a great Christmas celebration.
Sixth, we are continuing our Wednesday night Bible study series: “Since You Asked.” Every Wednesday night we have a season of prayer and then I attempt to answer important questions that you have about the Bible. If you will drop your question in the offering plate or give it to me on a piece of paper when you see me, I will try to answer your question. Even if you can’t make it on Wednesday nights, our bible study and prayer time is livestreamed and recorded so that you can view it later on our webpage: www.Lockhartchurch.net.
Seventh, “M.O.D.A.R.” is coming. What is MODAR? January is MODAR, a month of dedication and renewal for our church. Each Sunday in January, we are going to have a special speaker who will motivate us rededicate ourselves to Christ, connect with each other, and serve the Lockhart community by sharing Jesus’ love. Please pray for our emphasis in the month of January and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to us in a special way.
Finally, we have two funerals this coming weekend. Gloria Sewell’s funeral is this Saturday, October 2, at 10:00 AM in the auditorium, followed by a graveside service at the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Then, Chandler Espiña’s memorial service will be held in our auditorium on Sunday afternoon, October 3, at 2:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend.
A great deal more is happening here at Lockhart, and I believe God is going to do great things in our church for his glory. Join with me in praying that God will guide our steps and that we will be true to our motto to WORSHIP, CONNECT, SERVE.
God bless you, Pastor Rob
