1 Corinthians 13:8-13

The Church’s Foundation is Love

Sunday, February 6, 2022

Scripture: Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now, we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor. 13:8–13).

Main Point: The foundation of our church must be Christ’s love, and we must express His love every day to the people around us.

I. Love is eternal, (it cannot fail).

II. God is love.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:7–8).

III. God invites us into a love relationship.

IV. God’s love will transform and perfect us.

V. We must share His love with others since faith, hope, and love bring eternal life.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made from things that are visible… And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him (Hebrews 11:1, 6).

VI. Consequently, Love is supreme. It must be the foundation of our church.

Challenge: Are we allowing the love of God to permeate our church family? If so, are you personally sharing God’s love with the people around you?
